I often compare my Spanish language learning to Emerson’s English language learning. Mixing up pronouns, using wrong verb tenses, and trying out new words. Understanding far more than we can communicate. And sometimes nodding our heads, pretending to understand far more than we actually understand. Yep, we’re in the same language acquisition boat. But let’s not compare her Spanish learning to mine…I’m pretty sure she comprehends way more than I do.
A lot of times I feel like I’m not learning anything and my words come out as nonsense. For example, today in class I formed a question in Spanish that basically said “do you buy flowers your wife?” Very much thinking I was saying, “do you buy flowers for your wife?” It’s a struggle, for sure, to not get stuck in that place of insecurity and inability. I’m slowly learning to let go of those things. Remembering God has brought me to this place to do exactly what I’m doing. Trying to remember that it’s his work, not mine.
that’s cute, I like your comparison with Emerson. It’s when we realize the magnitude of what we’re trying to accomplish, that makes us feel more like children than adults, and makes us long for the help of our Father. Keep going, you will make it! We love you and miss you!
