We had lunch yesterday with some friends and grilled out. Every time I see a grill, I get a tad homesick for Argentina and miss the delicious asados that I could be having if only I was on the other side of the world. In Argentina, they slow cook meat over coals for several hours producing some of the best flavor and most delicious meat you can imagine. Yesterday, we were just having hamburgers and hot dogs on a gas grill, but you know what? I was starving, so for just once…I was really grateful that I didn’t have to wait two hours for the meat to slow cook. As hungry as we all were, I can definitely say that there was a real advantage to being able to cook and eat in a fraction of the time that it would take in Argentina.
I’m sure there is a way to turn this into an elaborate metaphor for culture or spirituality, but I’m not really in the mood to do so. Apply it however you want.
